White Ribbon Day 2022
White Ribbon Day 2022
White Ribbon Day – also known as the International Day for the Eradication of Violence against Women – is a global movement of men and boys working to end male violence against women and girls.
This year’s White Ribbon Day coincided with the start of the FIFA World Cup – an event during which we see a rise in domestic abuse cases in the UK – so the message was clear: there’s never been a better time for us to come together and start playing as a team to end violence against women and girls.
ALL men can commit to making the world safer and more equal - that's #TheGoal. Football fan or not, make the White Ribbon Promise - to never commit, excuse or remain silent about male violence against women – today.
We marked White Ribbon Day in several ways..
Virtual conference
We hosted a virtual conference with our partners across Cheshire, during which we discussed how we’re all individually and collectively working to tackle the issue of domestic abuse. A graphic scribe attended the event and created a drawing to summarise everything shared and discussed.
White Ribbon Tree
We visited the White Ribbon Tree at Park Life café in Queens Park, Crewe. Each year, we decorate trees with messages and pledges from the local community to survivors of domestic abuse, so the trees become symbols of unity and support.
Positive masculinity video
We asked Friends of My CWA to share what positive masculinity means to them and how they promote and instil positive traits in themselves and others. Watch the video of what they created here.
Creative competition
We know that art and poetry can help survivors as part of their healing journey, so we invited our followers to send us their poetry and artwork taking inspiration from this year’s positive masculinity theme. You can view the entries here.
Raising awareness
White Ribbon Day marks the start of 16 days of action to end violence against women. During the 16 Days campaign, people around the world unite to raise awareness about gender-based violence and challenge discriminatory attitudes. We marked each day with a different topic we felt should have attention, awareness and support.
