Why we give gifts to local families every Christmas

Woman sitting beside a Christmas tree with her head in her hands.

For many of us, Christmas is a time of joy and togetherness. But it can be a really hard time of year for families affected by domestic abuse.

It often seems like everyone else is in a bubble of festive cheer, while people experiencing abuse might be recently separated, battling financial abuse or coping with the harsh reality of a cost-of-living crisis.

At My CWA, we provide practical & emotional support – and a glimmer of hope – to those who need it at Christmas. The people we help could be your friends, relatives, neighbours or co-workers. Parents you see every day on the school run. The checkout assistant at your local supermarket. The dog walker you see at the park.

Our Santa’s grotto

Every year, thanks to your generosity, we organise Santa's grottos in Crewe & Macclesfield for local children. We also give specially selected gifts to adult survivors so they know they’re not alone. We rely on generous donations from local people and companies to help make this happen – we couldn’t do it without you.

Volunteer

Help us organise gift donations and ensure our Santa’s grottos run smoothly.

*Important note: Kids know when toys are pre-loved. We appreciate donations of nearly-new items for resale at our Macclesfield charity store, but when it comes to Santa and helping us sprinkle some Christmas magic, please ensure your gifts are boxed/brand new – and NOT gift wrapped (so we can allocate according to age). Thanks for understanding.

The more, the merrier

Want to boost your donations and make an extraordinary difference throughout your community? Turn your workplace, school, network or group into a collection point for My CWA and help us support more families than ever before.

Taking part is so easy:

  • Set up a collection point (supermarkets often use trolleys but you could use a table or a large box)

  • Promote the My CWA gift appeal so people know what to donate (see the My CWA Amazon Christmas Wishlist for inspo) – and where they can leave it. We’re accepting:

    • Toys for children of all ages

    • Gifts for tweens & teens

    • Gifts for adult survivors

  • Watch the presents stack up – and know that local families will benefit from your generosity

  • Drop your donations into our Crewe support centre by 19th December so our elves can get busy sorting (don’t forget to take photos of your donations and tag us on social media)

So much more than a feel-good feeling

Supporting My CWA is a great way to give back to your local community at this time of year. But it’s not just about that feel-good feeling you get from doing something worthwhile. It’s about giving hope to local families – uplifting people’s spirits when they feel like the world’s against them.

It’s about lighting up a child’s face when they get their very own gift from Santa. It’s the happy tears of a mum when she’s treated with kindness & compassion – and a little something for herself – after yet another year of turmoil. To the people we support, knowing they aren’t alone means everything.

Thank you so much for supporting this year’s My CWA Christmas gift appeal – we really couldn’t do it without you.
