NEWS RELEASE:

Just weeks after non-essential shops were given the go ahead to open their doors, Cheshire domestic abuse charity, My CWA – formerly Cheshire Without Abuse – has announced an urgent store manager vacancy at its Macclesfield community hub.

The charity – which helps adult and child domestic abuse survivors as well as perpetrators – only launched the venture a couple of months before lockdown, but was forced to close – along with most of the retail sector – at the end of March.

The community store offers everything you’d expect from a typical charity shop – including affordable, pre-loved clothing, gifts and homeware. But it also acts as a hub for My CWA’s food bank and toiletry bank users and (pre-lockdown) the venue hosted information days, makers markets and peer support groups. These will be reinstated as soon as government guidelines allow.

My CWA chief executive, Saskia Lightburn-Ritchie, explains: “We thought we were ready to go. But due to circumstances beyond our control, we’ve found ourselves without a store manager just a few weeks into non-essential opening. We can’t re-open until we fill this role.

“This isn’t your average charity store manager position. The successful applicant will have the chance to make a real difference within our community. We need someone who shares our vision, someone who can face this challenge head-on and help us get our community hub back up and running.”

Saskia continues: “This is an urgent vacancy – you could be signing your contract in just a couple of weeks. We want an experienced, creative and innovative store manager. You’ll be developing and inspiring a team of staff and volunteers as well as maintaining high visual merchandising standards. You’ll be confident and you’ll thrive under pressure.

“There’s no doubt about it – it won’t be easy in the current climate. But we are determined to make this work for the families we support. And we need someone who feels as passionate about this as we do,” Saskia concludes.

To apply for the role, download and complete the application and send it – along with a covering letter and a copy of your CV – to: info@mycwa.org.uk

NOTE: My CWA is exceptionally busy at the moment as the Covid-19 crisis has led to unprecedented demand for the charity’s services, so it can’t confirm the outcome of all applications.

But the closing date is 12th July and shortlisting takes place the following day, so you’ll know within a couple of working days if you’ve reached interview stage.
