My CWA announces poetry competition winners

Thank you to everyone who entered our poetry competition. We had our busiest ever Christmas, working tirelessly to deliver food hampers and gifts to families throughout Cheshire, so we’re sorry it’s taken so long to announce our winners.

After much deliberation, we’re delighted to announce the winners of our 2020 poetry competition.

And the winners are…

  1. Her Bloody Sunrise

  2. Walk The Other Way

  3. Half The Person

Congratulations to our winners who will each receive a mindful gift set.

The winners were selected by Crewe and District Writers Circle. Member Helen Kay said: “The winning poem showed a fantastic layering of images – the candles of the cake is a very strong image. It’s carefully structured and concise.

“The second poem is so visually powerful and honest. It also shows a skilful handling of rhyme and rhythm. The third poem has a wonderful title and feels very achieved and complete in what it is trying to say.”

Thank you so much for involving us. It was a privilege and I hope all the writers will keep writing.

This year’s theme was: Reach In | Reach Out. We’ll be publishing a selection of poems written by domestic abuse survivors in a book that we hope to launch later in the year. So watch this space…

Poetry writing with My CWA

We promote poetry writing as part of our recovery programme for domestic abuse survivors and we run poetry workshops for people who aren’t sure where to start.

If you’ve never written poetry before – or if you’re feeling a bit rusty and would like some guidance – drop us an email and we’ll send you details of our next poetry writing workshops.
